The company has made a recent addition to the already versatile app by including a new tab on the home screen titled TikTok Shop. According to the TikTok website, TikTok Shop is “a completely personalized and fully integrated commerce solution, where sellers authentically connect with creators and communities to drive meaningful shopping experiences.” Using the same algorithm as TikTok’s For-You Page, products are recommended on TikTok Shop through content and items specifically catered towards consumers’ interests. From fashion to food, the Recommended For You tab on the screen displays items that are assumed to intrigue specifically that user. The application also offers the opportunity for creators to earn a commission by promoting a product through their new Affiliate Program. The products sold on the platform are provided by the app’s collaborations with brands and small businesses, so why not purchase the item directly from the vendor?
TikTok Shop has provided their customers with different coupons, deals, and promo-codes making it much cheaper to purchase through them than from the original site. By simply opening the application for the first time, you are rewarded with a coupon for 30 percent off any purchase. Not only are coupons for insane deals easy to find, they are stackable and can be used in the same order, but the products being sold may not be coming from the most reliable sources. While genuine brands are able to set up shop on the platform, they are easy to impersonate and sell a knock-off version of the product for a cheaper price.

The collection Mader found on TikTok Shop was priced at $40, and with her additional 40 percent off coupon, she received her $26 perfume collection within four days of placing her order.
