The 126th annual Army-Navy football game is set to take place this year on Saturday, December 13th 2025. The game will be hosted at the M&T Bank stadium, a neutral location not too far away from the Naval Academy itself.
This rivalry has been a staple of college football since the 1930s, as the game features pageantry, tradition, fly-overs and sometimes even presidential attendance. Leading up to the game there are numerous events, like spirit videos and mascot stealing which was banned after an incident in 1991 called “Operation Missing Mascot”, a raid where a group of Navy Midshipmen (with the support of two active duty SEALS, tied up several army employees and cut power lines to steal West Point’s four Mules.
The game precedes with ceremonial traditions like the “march on”, where the student bodies of both teams march in formation onto the field while a navy jet conducts its most renown flyover. Afterwards, soldiers from both the Army and the Navy are encouraged to display parachute demonstrations. During half-time as tradition, the president, when in attendance, will cross the field and sit with fans on the opposite side. Then the well-known “prisoner exchange” will take place. This happens when students who take classes at their rival’s academy come down to the midfield and switch sides– allowing them to cheer and show support for their own team. During the conclusion of the game, both teams come together to sing each other’s alma maters. The losing team’s song is sung first in front of their audience so they can cross the field for a second time. The winning team is also invited to sing a song in front of their supporters too. All-in-all, singing has become a synonymous tradition for winning the rivalry game. When all is complete, the winner takes home the Commander-in-Chief-Trophy, crowning them in its glory.
