Having a job is a perfect way to demonstrate leadership and work ethic for colleges and obviously a great way to make money; but before you start looking for a job you have to take a look at several crucial aspects of the work force.
First being that many jobs require specific certifications and work permits in order to apply for that position. Second, if you are under the age of 18 you are still a minor and subject to many child labor laws that put restrictions on work hours and implement strict safety regulations for you in the workplace. Now if you are aware of all these job restrictions, have a resume, documentation and a free schedule, you can apply to jobs that would work for you.
A popular job among students at Robinson is Chick-fil-A, where if you are at least 16 you can apply for a position as a team member or their back or a kitchen position. Being a Chick-fil-A team member entails many upfront tasks like greeting customers, taking orders, and an array of food preparation skills while kitchen tasks are generally things along the lines of food assembly, preparation, and cooking. These positions look at a pay rate of around $13 to $16 dollars per hour.
Another position in the food industry is Cold Stone where you can apply to work as a crew member. This requires providing strong customer service skills, while also completing tasks along the lines of taking orders, preparing ice cream, and maintaining a clean and healthy store racking up around $13-$16 an hour.
Moving away from food services is Kohl’s where you can apply to be a Seasonal Retail Sales Associate working to provide customer service, promote the store’s loyalty program, manage the register, and help shoppers locate items. They also offer the position as a Stockroom Operations Associate where you organize and process incoming freight, restock the sales floor, and unload trucks. Both of these positions have a pay rate of around $13-$22 an hour
Lastly is Starbucks where as a 16 year old you can take up the job as a barista. This entails making drinks, maintaining a clean store, handling customer transactions, managing the inventory and creating a welcoming friendly environment making around $15-$18 an hour.
