The New York Giants are a franchise whose fans have been long suffering for the last couple of years. Last year, they performed so poorly that they managed to acquire the 3rd overall pick. The biggest need at that time was at the Quarterback position, one left with very big shoes to fill since the retirement of 2-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning in 2020. In the off-season, the Giants signed both Russell Wilson, a Super Bowl winning quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, followed by short stints with the Broncos and Steelers. And Jameis Winston, a former Heisman winner who is known for always throwing a ridiculous amount of touchdowns and way too many interceptions. He never really panned out with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and sat as a backup for the Saints and Browns before finding his way to New York.
The Giants used their 3rd overall pick on linebacker Abdul Carter, which made it seem clear that Russell Wilson was to be the starter. However, they then traded back up into the first round at the 25th pick for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, who had a very solid senior collegiate season at Ole Miss, finishing with 4279 yards, 29 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions.
So the question for the Giants, especially following Russell Wilson’s lackluster performance in week one against the Washington Commanders, that being 46% completion for 168 yards and no touchdowns, is who should start? The veteran Russell Wilson? Jameis “it’s getting in the end zone somehow” Winston? Or the unproven rookie Jaxson Dart?
