This year, Robinson’s Student Government Association (SGA) is shaking off the winter blues with a spring semi-formal. Scheduled for Saturday March 7th, 2026, the dance is shaping up to be a new annual tradition, giving students a chance to dress up and ditch the stress of school for just one night. From attire to theming, this is everything you need to know about the upcoming formal.
…
After years of having only Homecoming and Prom events, SGA members wanted to try something different. Senior and SGA Spring Formal Committee Member Maryn Hurley mentioned how “we got a lot of interest [in a spring formal] from our social media, [with many] people suggesting to do it.”
Spring Formal Committee Leader and Junior Lily LoGrasso also mentioned that SGA has “wanted to do a formal like this for years, and it finally got approved this year.”
The dance is structured similarly to Homecoming, particularly in regards to the semi-formal dress code. For feminine attire, expect to wear short cocktail dresses with heels, and for masculine attire, think about two-pieces, like dress pants and a button up (with the option of a tie and suit jacket). LoGrasso mentioned that SGA is hoping for people to wear pastels, lighter colors, and bright neutrals like white or tan.
Those light colors lend themselves well to the dance’s Retro theme, with decor and theming bringing Robinson back to the mid-century modern era of the 1950s and 1960s.
The week leading up to the dance will also be accompanied by Fanquest, Robinson’s annual Special Olympics Basketball Game. Similarly to the Homecoming dance, there will be a Pep Rally and Spirit Week during the week of March 1st to March 7th, so get ready to cheer those on during the event! Be sure to keep an eye out for posters around the Subschools with the spirit week themes as we lead up to the dance. Don’t forget to show up and show out for spirit days!
SGA is incredibly excited about the spring formal this year and encourages everyone to attend and show support for the event so that Robinson can host more in future years. According to LoGrasso, “I think that this dance is going to be completely new and different from any dance in the past… everyone should definitely go.”
