Robinson has 5 lunch lines but there was one significantly different from all the others. It was bigger than the others, and its own unique items This was the snack line, located at the end of the gold cafeteria, closest to the gold bathrooms. Students have noticed that the lights are now never on, and that the doors are never open how they used to. The snack line was closed at the very beginning of the 2024-2025 school year. It was a very large room that specifically sold snacks like chips, cookies, pretzels, water etc. Although all the lunch lines still sell these items it causes more wait time and less lunch time.
Sophomore Gia Licciardo stated “I don’t want a full lunch & the lunch line takes so long for one thing.” The snack line was efficiently better for people looking to purchase snacks and not a whole meal. Now during lunch if a student would like chips, cookies, or pretzels. the student has to wait in line with others who are looking for a school meal. Because of this it Makes the wait time for snacks much longer and The vending machines are always empty and broken. The snack line also sold items that are no longer available like Cheetos, Hot Cheetos, and bagged pretzels. With the removal of this line, snacks have become more difficult to purchase in school as they are either not sold in vending machines or sold out.
The vending machines were a new addition to the cafeteria and in the halls. These new machines only accept cash, card, or Apple Pay as a payment method; meaning you can’t use your student ID to buy snacks. For students who don’t carry cash or have access to a card it may affect many who plan on getting snacks at Robinson. The vending machines cannot be used by most middle school students due to them having to put their phones in Yondr pouches.
.
Overall the snack line was a quick, fast, and more efficient way for students who were looking to purchase snacks with their FCPS account. Many students agree that if the staff were to bring back this line time would be spent more efficiently and less long waiting lines. Although the vending machines were to be restocked they often are out of stock of students’ favorites or do not carry the snack of choice, and many lunch minutes are wasted without the snack line .
