Mockingjay Flies to Top of the Box Office

Katniss Everdeen topped the box office once again with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 2, directed by Francis Lawrence. The newest Hunger Games movie brought in a total of $101 million for the weekend.

Although this amount falls short of the predicted $120 million, Mockingjay- Part 2 still earned the fifth-biggest debut this year. Suzanne Collins worked with director Francis Lawrence to continue to impress fans with the final movie in the Hunger Games series.

What makes this two hour movie worth watching is the way it follows the book’s story line. The movie accurately follows major plot points and important details laid out in the book. This movie felt very suspenseful, with music and dark lighting which created a sense of foreboding throughout scenes when the revolutionary was working their way to the Capitol.

At one intense moment in the movie where they are traveling through the sewers, the suspense builds enough that it is almost a relief when the action starts up. The movie wastes no time getting to the plot, as it jumps right in with the injured Katniss and continues to develop the story of propaganda and political strategy.

Already, character development shows in some of the supporting characters like Peeta and Prim, along with the independence movement continuing to grow in the Capitol. Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of Katniss Everdeen is top notch, as her acting gives depth and great emotion to the character. The many speeches given by her character are so powerfully delivered that they may drive even the toughest of viewers to tears.

Lawrence makes fictional Katniss Everdeen feel like a real person that the audience can closely relate to and empathize with. Along with co-stars Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, and Sam Claflin, Mockingjay-Part 2 is a performance that presents the horrors of political tyranny and revolution in a way viewers can visually understand. Emotional and action-packed, Mockingjay- Part 2 is quality movie that all audience members will enjoy.
