The track team has concluded their season with strong performances at both districts, and regionals and participating in the state tournament. The girls team placed second at districts, with victories in the 4×4 and sophomore Macey Schweikert won both the mile and the 800. The boys’ team won districts with sophomore Nathan Schulte coming in fifth in the 800 and senior Patrick Spahn coming in second for the two mile.

“The boys’ two milers played an instrumental role, scoring go ahead points in districts,” said junior Leif Van Acker.

In the regional tournament the boys team took fourth place, but was disqualified from the 4×4. Both Schulte and Spahn moved onto states for their performances in the 800 and the two mile. The girls team did not place but their 4×4 got third place and they moved o to the state tournament.

Though they are a team, some members stick out as leaders and motivators more than others.

“Kate Muler, she was our captain and was really dedicated to the team mentally and physically,” Schweikert said.

The team has a training regimen incorporating the proper amount of intensity and rest to be in peak condition on racing day.

“We do one hard work out a week and the others are slow and easy to let the legs rest up to run on Saturday,” Schweikert said.

Van Acker said the coaches felt the runners needed to believe in their preparation to be successful.

Van Acker said, “Coaches emphasized getting after it, putting it on the line and showing our strong training in the meets.”
