Crew Athletes Begin Conditioning for Spring Season

Although the crew season doesn’t begin until spring, the rowers have begun their preparations to ready them to take on the water with full force when the season comes to an official start. The girls who are returning team members meet every day after school alongside the novice rowers. They work on conditioning each day in an effort to improve their fitness. These practices are held under the supervision of coaches Jon Barrett and Azim Khodjibaev.

Not only is additional practice offered to high school students, but there will be clinics offered to the middle school students interested in becoming future rowers. As a team, the rowers are looking forward to the upcoming season.

“I want to push myself even harder than last year and become a better rower.”

— Sophomore Shreya Menon

“I want to push myself even harder than last year and become a better rower.” said sophomore Shreya Menon.

This season the team is scheduled to participate in 12 regattas. One of these regattas is the prestigious Canadian Secondary Schools Regatta Association Nationals. Menon said it’s her favorite regatta because only select boats get to attend. “And it’s in Canada!” she said.

This season there will be five coaches and about 200 rowers on the team.
