Ben’s Chili Bowl
Though not strictly a purveyor of dogs, Ben’s Chili Bowl serves up some of the best in the DC metropolitan area. Whether served at Nats park or the original store location, diners can expect juicy all beef franks and a smothering of rich beefy chili. Topped off with some steaming cheese sauce, the classic dog is as good a choice as you can get.

The dining chain certainly wouldn’t seem to be the go to spot for a quality hot dog, but the results are surprisingly nice. One can get a plain hot dog served on a toasted bun that serves as a decent dinner, but don’t expect anything mind blowing. The dogs are juicy and thick but have a strong taste of processed pork to them, not bad overall but not great.

Even with a name that screams anything but hot dogs, Peterson’s ice cream depot serves up one mean dog that packs a nice punch. Whether you go for a classic depot dog or make your own with an assortment of toppings from cheese to chili, every frank will taste great. Combine with a nice ice cream cone for desert and a perfect summer lunch is complete.
