Members of the Robinson Symphonic Band will perform popular holiday tunes for children in the 20th annual Tiny Tots concert this Thursday and Friday in Russell Theater.

Tiny Tots is performed by band members along with volunteers who dress up in various holiday-themed characters for the younger audience that attends the show. Some of the characters include those from films like Frozen and Toy Story.

During the show, children are introduced to all of the instrument families and they get a first-hand account of how these instruments are played. This year, Andrew Loft, Robinson band director and the conductor of the concert, said Tuesday expects anywhere between 300 and 800 people to attend each show.

Loft said the Tiny Tots concert is a “different experience” for kids. He said the goal of the event is “to see the little guys smile and shout, ‘Hurray!’”

“We get to play in front of kids and teach them about the magic of music and give them first-hand experience in music,” said Sam Conner, a junior who will perform in the show. “The children love the characters.”

There are three Tiny Tots concerts, all of which will take place at Robinson’s Russell Theater. There is one concert on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 10 a.m., and two concerts on Friday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The symphonic band has been preparing for about a month for the concert, and the students even managed to add characters that were not featured in last year’s show. The production began in 1996. All money made from ticket sales will go towards funding for Robinson’s band department.
